Welcome to the Wild Fishing Scotland database.

This database seeks to provide anglers with information on freshwater fishing throughout Scotland.

One only has to stop and think for a moment to realise that with an estimated 35,000 rivers and lochs to choose from, covering them all in one database might be a lifetime's work. This database does not pretend to do this, rather it should be viewed as a resource that will build up as time goes on and more data becomes available.

The database can be searched in various ways. A look at the database search page will show that "first level" searching is possible by county, nearest town, OS map number and fish types. Following the appropriate link in the Search On OS-Map box will take you to a map of Scotland, divided into click-able OS map squares. Click on any of the numbers to list the fishing locations for that map area.

When a "first level" search has been made, by the various methods mentioned above, the rivers. lochs and other fisheries in the database will be listed for that search. You can then click on any of the location names listed to view details of that location. Note too that within these results certain column details are also links. For example, County, OS Map, Nearest Town. Clicking on these will perform a new "first level" search as appropriate. Just try it, you can't do any harm and it will quickly become obvious. There is also a Fish column that lists the known species for the location. To view a key for the abbreviations, simply place your mouse pointer over the Fish heading.

The details for a particular location are presented on a new page containing various information boxes. The main box gives details of the fishing. There is also a box detailing permitted fishing methods and whether or not Sunday fishing is allowed. If permit details are available, the various vendors are listed, click on the name to display more details. If photos of the location are available, one photo will be displayed on the right, with an option to view any other photos in the archive. As before, there are also some click-able quick search links under the headings.

Along with and below the fishing location details there will be a list of shops and / or accommodation available within 100KM of the location, "as the crow flies". They are listed, in ascending order of distance, closest at the top of the list. Clicking on any of these will display all their details.

If you would like to make a contribution to this database, perhaps list your own fishings, maybe just feel that something has been missed out and must be included, or have a photo or two you would like to share with other anglers, please either contact Wild Fishing Scotland, using the email link below or submit the information using the online form by clicking HERE . This is a resource for all types of freshwater angling, so details of coarse fishing and stocked fisheries are also welcome.

The best way to use this database is to read the above and then give it a try, it's really very easy to understand.

Comments are very welcome, please click to email

Good luck!
